School Plant Room Refurbishment. St Margaret Ward Catholic Primary School

Summary:

The school plant room was in need of refurbishment. The new heating system needed to be reliable and efficient to ensure the right environment for learning. We took advantage of the school summer break in order to work safely and efficiently without the presence of students.

Brief:

Removal of the old school heating system and installation of a modern, energy-efficient central heating system, including three Evomax Ideal commercial boilers, low-loss header, pump sets, and air dirt separator. The plant control system was also updated.

Project Challenges:

The time frame of this project was tight; all work needed to be completed within the summer break to ensure good health and safety whilst maintaining excellent quality control. The second challenge faced was the adaption of existing old pipework where necessary to fit the diameter of modern pipework.

The Solution: Meel Group Expertise

The Meel Group’s Building Services engineers are highly skilled in their field, and the in-house coded welder was able to reconfigure existing pipework and fabricate new piping and welding on-site to complete the project. For this particular job, four to six-inch steel pipework was used to connect the existing distribution system to the newly installed low-loss header.

The Results

The project was completed in time for the new school year in September. Our engineers successfully reconfigured the existing pipework to the new system, and the school are now the proud owner of an energy-efficient system; three Ideal Evomax commercial boilers with a combined output of 450kW, providing them with a more reliable heating system and a conducive working environment.
